Most of you are certainly very familiar with the city and have visited it several times.
Each area of Barcelona has a different history and the properties in that zone reflect it in their character.
According to the reason why you are looking for a property in Barcelona, some areas might result more interesting than others, because of their rental potential, the fact that they are the next “trendy” spot, or any specific reason that might add value to the real estate investment.
For those of you who do not have a very good knowledge of the different areas and barrios, I am going to publish short articles with descriptions about the different areas, and the features (including plus and cons) we can expect to find in properties in that area.
One think is certain: each area is a completely different world.
There are 10 districts in Barcelona, and each district is composed of different quarters or barrios. Most of the districts were villages that were incorporated into Barcelona between the XIX and the XX Century.
The districts are:
Ciutat Vella – the historical city centre, with a surface of around 4.5 km2
Eixample – around Paseo de Gracia, the avenue that splits it into left “Eixample Izquierda” and right “Eixample Derecha”, or “Dreta” (Catalan for “right”). It is also known as “Ensanche”. Surface: around 7.5 km2
Sants-Montjuic – the largest district, with a surface of around 21.4 km2
Les Corts – it includes Pedralbes, known as the most expensive area of Barcelona. Surface: 6 km2
Sarriá-Sant Gervasi – another high-end area. Surface: around 20 km2
Gracia – the smallest district, with a surface of around 4.2 km2
Horta-Guinardo – surface of around 12 km2
Nou Barris – 8 km2
Sant Andreu – 6.6 km2
Sant Marti – which includes Poblenou and Villa Olimpica. Surface: around 11 km2
I will focus only on the areas that are most interesting to foreign investors but if you would like an opinion about any other area, please just get in touch and I shall be happy to help!
